Football vs. Billerica

The Burlington vs Billerica game was a typical battle for both of these teams. With the much larger school Billerica ranked 7th in the state being a heavy favorite Burlington still managed to almost pull out a victory but the last drive stalled and the game ended Billerica 35-Burlington 27. The game started with plenty of fireworks as the first play of the season saw Burlington's Sophomore Tailback Marcus O'daih go 74 yards for a touchdown and had Burlington out to a quick lead. The Gatorade player of the year last year Quarterback Nick Laspada from Billerica was the difference all night as he managed to make big play after big play and threw 3 touchdowns and ran for another. Nick Ciardi From Burlington had a fine night with 4 catches and an interception as Burlington's Quarterback Gregg Sheridan hung tough running and throwing well all night for us. Kyle Shields added 2 touchdowns while Marcus O'daih showed huge signs of a very bright future with 11 carries for 157 yards and a touchdown for Burlington. Jonathan Dube, Dalton Barrucci and Joe Hoffman played well on the line for Burlington's defense as We came up just short in this one. All in all it was a great effort by the huge underdog Burlington as we look to get our first win this week vs Arlington another very large Division 1 School.

Girls Soccer Update - First Three Games

We beat Watertown 6-1 led by Jodi Han who had a hat trick. We also had goals by Miceala Christy, Ashley Steadman, and Megan Packard. We played a good game to start the season.

Melrose was a zero zero tie. We had several scoring chances including a penalty kick in the first half. Their goalie played outstanding and did a great job of not letting any goals in. Our goalie and defense led by Kierstin Merlino, Abbey Joyce, Renee Iodice, and Megan Packard did a great job earning our first shut out of the season.

The third game was reading. We tied one to one. We gave up a goal in the first half on a break away. We controled most of the play and in the second half jodi han found the back of the net on a great shot on the left side of the 18. We are now 1-0-2.

Off to a good start.

Boys Soccer Update

The Varisty Boys Soccer team continued its early season success with a 1-0 victory at Reading on Tuesday. After a disappointing first half, the Red Devils came out in the second half and dominated the ball, finally scoring with six minutes remaining. The goal was scored by freshmen Vassilli Vakalfotis. Peter DeBarros had a strong game in net and gets credit for the shutout.

The win brings the Red Devils to 3-0 on the season, after early victories against Watertown (1-0) and Melrose (1-0). Lucas Restivo scored in each game, with assists recorded by Kyle Sullivan and Tyler Baczewski. The Red Devils play Stoneham on Thursday at Francis Wyman.

Assists were also had by Holly Brouillette and Kerri.

On defense, strong games were had by center midfielder Jillian Mazure, who drove and carried the ball well. Mary Broza and Melissa Baumgartner played extremely well with one another in the backfield and did well keeping the ball in Melrose’s zone. Sara Walsh made a couple of great clears out of Burlington’s defensive zone, and Stacy and Kelly Howe looked good at midfield.
